Obie Bermudez - Todo el Ano
Saturday March 11, 2006
The advice "write about what you know" was taken seriously by Obie Bermudez, whose last album Confesiones journaled his five years spent at a South Bronx laundromat, after his debut salsa album Locales didn't sell as well as expected. If long, boring, stretches of time are the stuff of albums, I bet we all have the makings of an album somewhere in us.
Of course, Bermudez has an edge with a great voice, a lyrical way of describing the ordinary and a strong musicality that helped make Confesiones a winner.
His latest album, Todo el Ano, doesn't have a new, boring job to recommend it, but the music will do. A maturing voice, sharp instrumentals and stories of life to tell, there's a good reason it garnered 3 Latin Grammy nominations.
