Juanes' “Colombia Sin Minas” Benefit Concert
Thursday March 30, 2006
If you’re going to be on the west coast at the end of May, save May 24th for what should be a spectacular star-studded concert at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles. Among those scheduled to perform are Alejandro Sanz, Ana Gabriel, Carlos Vives, Juan Luis Guerra, Laura Pausini, Luis Fonsi, Ricardo Montaner and Juanes.
Juanes has always been passionate and active about conditions in his native Colombia. The Colombia Sin Minas (Colombia without Mines) concert will benefit the between 5,000 – 6,000 people, many of them children, who die or are injured every year as a result of stepping on anti-personnel mines. The hope is that the concert will appeal to the conscience of authorities to cease the use of these types of mines in the current conflict, not to mention the proceeds that will aid the victims in their recovery.
The concert will be an “all-acoustic” event where the artists will be performing with only the accompaniment of acoustic guitars and piano. The thought is to reduce the cost of the production and provide as much of the proceeds as possible to relief for the victims.
This concert is not only an outstanding opportunity to see and hear some of the best Latin artists performing today, but also to know you are doing something worthwhile while enjoying the music. See you there!
