CD Review: Vicente Fernandez - Mis Duetos
Thursday April 27, 2006
Vicente Fernandez is the icon of Mexican ranchera music, and after listening to his CD Mis Duetos (My Duets) I can't help wondering why I don't listen to more of it. Fernandez' voice is large, clear and robust and many of the tracks are familiar and often moving.
But it was the video clips that left me with three burning questions: Is this the first time a musical video was done as a cartoon? Where can I buy a tight, black leather ranchera outfit like the one worn by Alejandro in the duet with his father?
And finally, how do you gracefully perform the famous smooch under the sombrero if the sombrero has a six foot diameter and you're taller than the guy? Hmmm.
