CD Review: A.B. Quintanilla III Presents Kumbia Kings Live!
Tuesday May 2, 2006
If you love cumbia, like most of the southwestern U.S., there's not much to say about Los Kumbia Kings that you don't already know. In their latest CD offering, the Texas cumbia/fusion group perform their most famous songs before an enthusiastic live audience.
A. B. Quintanilla is the name that you see partnered before the titles of the King's last few albums. Quintanilla, besides being the group's producer and bassist, is also the brother of the late, great tejano singer, Selena (I bet he gets tired of always having this tag attached to his name).
The Kumbia Kings have enough of a fan base that there's no need to talk them up, but if you're not familiar with this great tejano group, or cumbia in general, you're missing out on an exciting band playing original and infectious music.
