CD Review: Plena Libre - Evolucion

Tuesday May 9, 2006
One of the most dynamic forms of Puerto Rican music is the plena. It's been mostly overlooked for awhile, taking second seat to the more visible salsa and reggaeton coming out of the island. The good news is that is seems to be catching on again, and no one brings energy and life to plena like Plena Libre.

Evolucion is full of high energy plena tunes, with a little bomba and jazz thrown in. If you haven't had a chance to listen to the living, breathing sounds of Puerto Rico, this album is a good introduction. If you already love plena, turn up the volume!
