CD Review: The Best of Perez Prado - The Original Mambo No. 5
Tuesday May 23, 2006
Pianist-bandleader Damaso Perez Prado is probably the man most responsible for bringing mambo to mainstream U.S. audiences. Born in Matanzas, Cuba, he left for Mexico in 1944 because his jazz-inspried musical innovations were frowned upon in traditionalist, local, musical circles. There, he quickly earned the nickname "The Glenn Miller of Mexico". His first U.S. appearance was in 1951, while his 1955 album Mambo Mania contained the huge hit single "Cherry Pink, Apple Blossom White".
Sony Legacy Recordings and RCA Records have reissued almost all of Prado's big hits in this "Best of" album. If you want to understand why mambo madness took over so much of the world in the 1950s, this CD is a great place to start.

looking for perez prado`s big hit of 1962; “patricia twist.“ not to be confused with his other hit titled,
“patricia.“ where can i find it?
thanks, jeff
Hi Jeff -
“Patricial Twist” is not one of Perez Prado’s big hits, so I’m not sure it was ever issued on CD. He made over 100 recordings, so it’s possible.
I did find it on vinyl and my suspicion is that may be the only place it’s available. Here’s the url of the vinyl shop:

Good luck -

Patricia twist is on one of the volumes of Hey! Look what I found, sold by Continental Records – http://www.gocontinental.com
