The Godfathers of Norteno: Los Tigres Del Norte
Monday June 19, 2006
Los Tigres del Norte are a legend among norteno bands. They don't just sing about the Mexican immigrant experience in the U.S., they've lived it first hand. Except that, blessed with exceptional musical talent and thoughtful insight into the lives of their community, they've achieved the American dream rather than the American nightmare.
With 36 years of music making, over 55 albums, a regular and Latin Grammy, an exhibit in the Smithsonian, the creation of a charitable foundation and even a street named after them (in Chicago), these brothers (and cousin) still live a low key life in San Jose. I guess that's understandable; with all these accomplishments, they're probably tired.
