Latin Alternative Music Festival
Thursday August 3, 2006
I have to confess that I've never been clear about alternative music, whether it's alternative rock or any other flavor. Is it music that's not being played on the major radio stations or music that is an altogether different genre than the majority of listeners are familiar with? In either case, I do know that alternative music is clearly a popular and growing musical phenomenom.
Now that I've seen the line-up of performers currently participating in the Latin Alternative Music Festival (Aug. 2-5) in New York, I'm even more confused - but with that musical cast, I wish I were in New York.
Among those performing will be reggaeton's Calle 13, Pitbull, Spain's Pinker Tones, Pistolera, Manu Chao, Molotov, Mexican Institute of Sound and Los Amigos Invisibles. For those not close to the Big Apple, LATV, the bilingual youth network, will be featuring interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and live performances, so you still have a chance to catch the action on cable.
