Salsa + Reggaeton = Salsational

Thursday August 3, 2006
The first "salsaton" number I ran across was on La India's Soy Diferente album. I liked it then, especially the "Soy Diferente" track with rapper Cheka.

Now here's another take on the genre, with ex-El Gran Combo sonero Andy Montanez giving us an album called Salsaton: Salsa con Reggaeton with the help of a great group of reggaeton rappers, mostly from his home island of Puerto Rico.

So, do salsa and reggaeton go together like oil and water or ham and eggs? It probably depends on who's doing the cooking. And Andy Montanez is a great chef.

By the way, if you're anywhere near southern Florida, you'll have a chance to see Andy Montanez in concert on Aug. 12.

Hello Tijana. The “cooking” these guys are doing is purely commercial oriented, just because they are taking advantage of the reggaeton boom. I belong to several salsa forums where this “salsaton” topic is discussed and we consider this mix as inappropiate as drinking whiskey with cocacola.

Hi!

I think that drinking coke with wiskey is marvelous, so is SALSATON! ;)
