Folklorico Challenge USA 2006
Thursday August 17, 2006
Folklorico groups are often a child's first encounter with the music and dance of their respective culture. That's probably the reason why it's such a kick to see their enthusiastic response to the musical heritage that helps them answer the primal question: who am I?
Here's an opportunity to see the best of the colorful, joyous folklorico groups. The Folklorico Challenge USA (FCUSA) is holding their national finals in Los Angeles this weekend (August 19th, Wilshire Ebell Theater, 1 P.M.).
Last year, over 100 dance groups participated, with regional winners coming to vie for the big prize. Of course, all of the contestants aren't children; the dance-off is divided into 3 age categories: Juniors (10 and under), Seniors (11-17) and Adults (18 and up).
It sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon with your family.
