CD Review: Conjunto Primavera - Algo De Mi

Thursday September 7, 2006
A few years ago, Conjunto Primavera's label, Fonovisa, led a protest against the Latin Grammys. They claimed that the Latin Music Academy was discriminating against what's called "Mexican Regional Music" (or just "Regional Music"). What this really bad catchall phrase describes is the most popular Latin music on the airwaves in the U.S.: Mexican traditional and Mexican popular music.

While the academy is making some small inroads into correcting their bias, norteno bands like Conjunto Primavera just keep their public dancing with album after album of norteno/romantic hits. If you're new to the genre, Conjunto Primavera's Algo De Mi is a good place to start a relationship with a vibrant Latin sound.
