Jose Feliciano's National Anthem First Ever in Top-40

Sunday October 29, 2006
So it's game five of the World Series, the St. Louis Cardinals lead Detroit 3 games to 1, Jose Feliciano gets up to sing the National Anthem, and 107 seconds later the phones start ringing off the hook. The song took too long, delaying the game (17 seconds longer than the 90 second average). Veterans were furious about the way the song was sung, throwing shoes at their TVs and calling in with angry complaints.

Are you wondering how you missed all of that yesterday, as Game 5 became the last game of the World Series? Are you thinking that it's not all that surprising as we move to the end of a year that's been filled with controversy surrounding the "Star Spangled Banner"?

The surprise is that this all happened in 1968, the year Feliciano's version of The Doors "Light My Fire" reached number 1, although Feliciano's career took a hit because of the controversy.

Here's an opportunity to hear Feliciano's Version of the Anthem as well as watch Feliciano's story in his own words.

It all just goes to prove that everything old is new again with time. Or maybe it's just 'Deja Vu' caused by being this close to Samhain.

By the way, the Detroit Tigers won that series.

Jose Feliciano is a Genius. Unfortunatelly after this great version of SPB He was boycotted by american radios, press and Record company and all his was destroyed. Is so sad then all the world has miss his arts and a so great and talented artist for this stupid thing. Go Jose, his last 2007 CD Soundrax of My Life is fanntastic!
