Los Tigres Del Norte To Receive BMI Icons Award

Los Tigres Del Norte are primed to add one more honor to their already huge list of honors. They'll be receiving this year's BMI Icons award for their "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers". The BMI Icon award will be presented at the 14th Annual Latin Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 23rd at the Las Vegas Venetian Resort Hotel and will include an all-star musical tribute. Hopefully the tribute will be telecast at some point in time, since the ceremony itself is a black-tie, invitation only occasion.

For Los Tigres fans, there's even better news as Los Jefes de Jefes plan to release their new album a few days after the BMI ceremony (March 27th). Last year's album, Historias Que Contar, won them the Latin Grammy for "Best Norteno Album".

The band, modest as ever, expressed their appreciation to the community that provided them the material for their colorful corridos and thus became, in effect, co-writers with Los Tigres. Band leader Jorge Hernandez said that "this career songwriting honor is equally a recognition of [the community's] experiences and we are honored to accept it on their behalf".
