Another Oscar Nomination for Gustavo Santaolalla
Tuesday January 23, 2007
Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and, once again, eclectic composer/producer Gustavo Santaolalla received recognition from the Academy for his score to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Babel. That makes two in a row for Santaolalla, who won the Oscar last year for his Brokeback Mountain score.
The Academy Awards are not the only place we'll be hearing about Santaolalla; he also received nominations from the Golden Globes, BAFTA and is up for a Grammy this year.
Apparently this man never sleeps, because aside from all the award shows he needs to attend, he is currently at work on the score to Walter Salles' upcoming On the Road (based on the life of Jack Kerouac) and Cafe de los Maestros, a film about Argentina's legendary tango musicians.
For neo-tango enthusiasts, Santaolalla's Bajofondo Tango Club is primed to release a new album this spring, following in the footsteps of their wonderful Supervielle. Called Mar Dulce, it should be available at your virtual or physical record store in the March/April timeframe.
