CD Review: Oscar D'Leon - Fuzionando
Thursday February 1, 2007
When you talk about salsa, Venezuela does not immediately come to mind, although salsa is a large part of their musical culture. But salsa is tied to the hip of the name of Oscar D'Leon, one of the world's boldest and brightest salseros.
Fuzionando, the latest from D'Leon, is his first fusion album, following on the heels of so many other artists that are experimenting with mixing different musical styles. But whether he mixes his music with reggaeton, hip hop or flamenco, there's no mistaking that distinctive voice and style.
Apparently music does not always pay the bills, even if you're Oscar D'Leon. So what does he do in the meantime? Well, get out of the airport at Caracas and you may find that the "Lion of Salsa" is your cabdriver.
