CD Review: Ojos De Brujo - Techari
Tuesday March 27, 2007
I'm a big fan of flamenco music, those passionate, vibrant melodies first sung by the gypsies in Spain's Andalucia region. I love classical flamenco, often little more than acoustic guitar and percussion provided by clapping hands. I love 'nuevo flamenco', made famous by groups like the Gypsy Kings.
So picture this music in your head, the guitar, castanets, finger snapping, drums of flamenco. Once you've got that rhythm going, add a little Latin funk or hip hop. How about some jazz piano or light brass? Try it with a tango rhythm or rumba. Now you're getting closer to the music of Ojos De Brujo.
I'm not sure what this music is properly called, maybe flamenco fusion? Whatever it's called, I love it.
