In The News: Bermudez/Pena Announce Engagement

Wednesday April 25, 2007
Tejano singer Jennifer Pena (Dicen Que El Tiempo) and Puerto Rican-born Obie Bermudez (Todo El Ano, Lo Que Trajo El Barco) just announced their engagement. They worked together as songwriters on Pena's new album and I guess all those love songs got to them - or should I say inspired them? Pena is on her way to the Tribeca Film Festival where her new film Amexicano will debut.

El Gran Combo 45-year Anniversary Bash
El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico will be celebrating 45 years of musically moving hearts and feet with a concert at San Juan's Jose Agrelot Coliseum on May 4th. Coming to help EGC celebrate will be Gilberto Santa Rosa, Andy Montanez and Panama's Secretary of Tourism, Ruben Blades. What a night for salsa! It makes me wish I'd saved those frequent flyer miles.

Juanes Talks About New Album
It's been a year since Colombian superstar Juanes finished his world tour in support of 2004's wildly successful Mi Sangre. The new album, La Vida Es Un Ratico (Life Is A Moment) is due to be released sometime this fall. Co-produced by Juanes and two-time Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla, early info reports that the CD will be very Colombian in sound. We'll know more soon; Juanes is scheduled to appear at a Q&A session at The Billboard Latin Music Conference today (maybe even as I'm writing this).

Don't forget: The Billboard Latin Music Awards will air tomorrow night, April 26, at 7 PM ET(Telemundo).

Luny Tunes Returns to Harvard
Reggaeton 's super-producers, Luny Tunes, will be returning to Harvard April 28th to host Harvard's annual Latino cultural celebration, Prescencia Latina.

If you're surprised about the 'return' part of this blog, the duo (Francisco Saldana and Victor Cabrera) worked in the dining hall of Leverett House before leaving for Puerto Rico in 2001.
