2007 Billboard Latin Music Award Winners
Friday April 27, 2007
Last night's Billboard Latin Music Awards big winner was Mariano Barba, with 4 awards, including 'Hot Latin Song of the Year' for "Aliado del Tiempo" (on the album by the same name). It's the first time I can remember a Mexican Regional newcomer beating out the likes of Shakira and Los Tigres del Norte. I don't think anyone was more surprised than Barba himself.
RBD came in with three wins, and after that the winners were pretty evenly spread out across the different categories.
The show was another musical extravaganza with performances by Latin pop's Paulina Rubio and Gloria Trevi, reggaeton's Don Omar, Calle 13, Rakim y Ken-Y and Wisin y Yandel. There was a really nice performance by salsa's El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, who were joined by Gilberto Santa Rosa and Victor Manuelle. And Dominican Juan Luis Guerra sang a couple of tunes from his La Llave de mi Corazon hit album.
Here's a list of winners in some of the more popular categories; you can see the complete list at the Billboard Website.
