CD Review: Stephen Bishop - Saudade
Thursday May 17, 2007
It feels strange reviewing a Stephen Bishop album on a Latin music site. But Bishop, the author of such hits as "On and On", "Save It For A Rainy Day", "One More Night" and "Separate Lives" is apparently a Brazilian music fan and Saudade is an album where he reprises many of his hit songs in a Brazilian bossa nova format.
While this is not an immediately obvious musical move, there's always been a little bit of a cool, bossa nova feel to his music so the translation is not that much of a stretch. Saudade is more Bishop than bossa nova, but if you're not a purist, the album is a pleasant listening hour to familiar songs with a Brazilian lilt.
