In The News: "Celia" Tickets Go On Sale
Friday June 8, 2007
Celia, the musical based on the life of Celia Cruz, is scheduled to make its world premiere on Aug. 28th at the New World Stages in New York City. Directed by Jaime Azpilicueta, the musical chronicles the colorful life of the Cuban "Queen of Salsa" in song and dance.
There's not much information about the cast yet, but earlier this year I posted the open casting call for the musical. I think that means we can expect some talented 'unknowns' to grace the stage. If they're any good, I bet they won't be unknown for long.
Tickets go on sale June 11th. The Saturday and Sunday performances will be in English, the rest of them in Spanish. You can purchase them by visiting Telecharge or by calling (212) 239-6200 (English) or (212) 239-6240 (Spanish).
Reggaeton Song in Support of Obama
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has had a reggaeton song written in support of his candidacy. You can hear it at the Amigos Del Obama website. Really.
Radio Caracas Television on YouTube
You may have been following the story of how Venezuela's oldest television station, Radio Caracas Television (RCTV) was taken off the air when the station's license renewal was denied by the Hugo Chavez regime in order to make way for a government run TV station.
Down but not out, RCTV has taken its programming to YouTube. There's also a moving video, A Heart Cries Out For Freedom in Venezuela, (in Spanish with English subtitles) about the events of the past few weeks.
