Live Earth Rio Back On Track
Friday July 6, 2007
There's only one more day until 7-7-07 and the 24 hour worldwide concert series that hopes to spotlight and raise awareness of the global warming crisis. The Live Earth series of concerts expects to reach 2 billion people with their message and is advertised to represent all seven continents. There are scheduled live concerts in New York, London, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hamburg.
I'm not sure who on the list is representing the 7th continent, Antarctica, but even South America was looking iffy yesterday. Brazilian judge Denise Turin had issued a court injunction blocking the Rio leg of the series because of security concerns.
The good news is that Judge Turin revoked her own injunction on Thursday after Live Earth organizers got a "go ahead" from Rio's police department and their guarantee that there would be adequate security for the event. Rio police are planning dozens of observation towers, platforms and police cameras at Copacabana Beach, the site of the Rio concert.
For those who plan to watch the concerts from the comfort of their couches, you can get viewing information from the Live Earth - A Complete Guide article.
Lenny Kravitz is scheduled to headline the Rio concert, so let's cross our fingers and hope things stay calm until concert time in Brazil.
