Shakira is adding a Golden Globe nomination to her list of awards; "Despedida" from Love in the Time of Cholera was nominated for 'Best Original Song - Motion Picture.' "Despedida" is one of two original songs that the Colombian star wrote, produced and recorded for the film. Shakira had this to say about the song: "Despedida is my dream song; I always wanted to create a song that evoked the mountains of my country and the lament of the Andes."
It seems to me that she definitely achieved that goal; watch the video of Shakira performing the song at the Las Vegas premier of Love in the Time of Cholera and see if you don't agree.
Ivy Queen Claims She Should Have Won
There's discord among rappers in the world of reggaeton these days. In an interview with Puerto Rico's El Nueva Dia, Ivy Queen made no bones about the fact that she thought she should have won the Latin Grammies that went to Calle 13, claiming that her music represents the true voice of the people.
First Ever "Mi TRL Awards" -
MTV Tr3s (pronounced 'tres') is a great place to go if you love Latin music - of the MTV variety. One of their premier programs is 'Mi TRL', the Spanish version of "Total Request Live".
Last week, MTV Tr3s sponsored their first ever "Mi TRL Awards". The categories were quirky and included the "So You Think You Can Act? Award", the "It's All Fun and Games Until Someone Loses An Eye" and "Should Have DVR'd It" awards.
Some of the performances included reggaeton favorites Wisin y Yandel, superpop's RBD and the newly formed Menudo. You can catch repeats of the program today, Thurs. December 20th at 6 pm and Sat. December 22 at 11 am.
In the meantime, if you want to see who won the 'Gallo' (rooster - what does that represent?), you can go to the MTV Tr3s website where you'll also find photos and show highlights.
