CD Review: Jerry Rivera - Carlos Gardel
Saturday December 22, 2007
Here's an original concept: classic tango songs, many of which were made famous by tango great Carlos Gardel, reinterpreted by Puerto Rican Jerry Rivera as salsa romantica.
Some more tango, some more salsa, the transition seems natural and - once you recover from the surprise - a musical rhythmic team that's hard to beat. Even the album cover is classic Gardel.

Great Album, I agree. Long time fan of Jerry Rivera, one of the most recognizable voices in salsa music. I was listening to a Sirius Satellite Radio interview with Jerry and was very impressed with his response. Jerry said he wanted to give his public something more than just a new cd with salsa songs….he wanted a new cd but also to bring back the songs of the Carlos Gardel. I’m a 25 year old salsa fan from Puerto Rico, who until Jerry came out with Caribe Gardel had no idea who the great Carlos Gardel was, and how great his songs are. I thank Jerry for not only giving me a new salsa cd, but also a history lesson on one of Latin music’s best. Jerry also mentioned he brought Lalo Rodriguez with him for the entire recording of the album, and Lalo did all the coros on this cd.
