You don't hear much about Afro-Peruvian music, but the Campos family has spent years keeping these musical traditions alive. Ronaldo Campos de Colina started Peru Negro as a 12-person family dance troupe over 3 decades ago and directed the ensemble until his death in 2001. The group has expanded to include 20+ members and, because of cultural and political unheaval in Peru, now spends their time touring abroad.

Peru Negro is currently on tour through the U.S. and their schedule includes dates from the east coast to California. Here's a chance to see a cross-section of African-descended styles that have all but disappeared from Peru.
