CD Review: Nortec Collective - Tijuana Sound Machine
Thursday May 8, 2008
The Nortec Collective coined the term 'nortec" to describe their music: a fusion of norteno and other Mexican genres with technology. The group creates loops and synths that feature the sounds of accordion, bass and brass. Some of the tracks have a real folkloric feel to them, others go beyond into the realm of trance-like Mexican chill and lounge.
In Tijuana Sound Machine, this time featuring creations by 2 of the band members, DJs Bostich and Fussible, they've mixed the electronic with acoustic instruments and deliver an album that's brassy, sassy and never dull.
