DVD Review: 'Straight Outta Puerto Rico: Reggaeton's Rough Road To Glory'

Thursday August 28, 2008
If you haven't heard of reggaeton, you either live in a small town without a Hispanic population or you've just been asleep. This Latin urban musical revolution started in Puerto Rico's barrios in the early 1990s; today it is often the music of choice for the young urban Latino globally.

But how did it happen? Who invents a new musical genre? How does it spread?

You can find the answer by watching this compelling documentary. Straight Outta Puerto Rico starts at the beginning and tells us the story in the words of the artists, DJs, producers and others who were instrumental in the evolution of reggaeton.
