Daddy Yankee - Reggaeton Pioneer and Entrepreneur

Whether or not you're a fan of the urban music called reggaeton, you've probably heard of Daddy Yankee. Born and raised in a Puerto Rican barrio, Daddy Yankee was one of the genre's pioneers. But there was more to Daddy Yankee than just the music; when his album Barrio Fino brought his name to the attention of an international audience, the rapper grabbed the opportunity to promote his now famous nickname by canny promotion in conjunction with the marketing of products from cars to soft drinks.

For the last few years, Daddy Yankee has moved into the movie biz, producing and starring in Talento de Barrio. The word is still out on just how good a business move - or a film - that will prove to be. We can all find out on Friday, Oct. 10th when Talento de Barrio opens to general release.
