“Revolu” (which means chaos) was written by singer/composer/historian Aurora Flores; you can hear her performing the infectious tune set to a bomba rhythm. The lyrics highlight the plight of victims of domestic violence and the video uses pictures from the ‘Brides March Against Domestic Violence’ as well as photos of domestic violence victims to bring home the message.
The NYC Brides March Against Domestic Violence (also known as the Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk) is in its eighth year and was initially inspired by the tragedy of Dominican Gladys Ricart who, on Sept. 21, 1999, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend as she was happily preparing for her wedding.
Great music has always been used to underscore important issues and “Revolu” does a wonderful job of just that.
You can hear “Revolu” on Aurora & Zon del Barrio’s album Cortijo’s Tribe.
