Premios MTV 2009 Nominations

The nominations for 2009's MTV Latin America awards are here, although the awards show itself has been renamed Los Premios MTV Latinoamerica. This is the only 'Latin music' awards show that includes names like Lady Gaga and Coldplay, but then the nominations are based on the popularity of artists in Latin American countries and it should come as no surprise that English-based bands are also popular there.

On the other hand, the majority of the nominees sing in Spanish and you'll find all the usual suspects on this year's list. In fact, it probably comes as no big surprise that Wisin y Yandel are once again in the lead for the most nominations.

Premios MTV Latinoamerica 2009 will be co-hosted by Calle 13's Residente (Rene Perez) and Nelly Furtado and there are sure to be lots of exciting musical acts as well as the 'reading of the winners.'

The show will be held on Oct. 15, 2009 in four cities: Los Angeles, CA, Bogota, Colombia, Mexico DF and Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm not sure how MTV will handle four cities simultaneously -- if it is simultaneous -- but viewers in the U.S. can watch the program on MTV Tr3s while in Latin America the show will be aired on MTV Latin America.
