Susana Baca is one of the biggest names in Peruvian music. Thanks to her music, which is heavily influenced by Afro-Peruvian rhythms, this singer has won a worldwide appeal as one of the leading voices of traditional Latin music. In these days, however, Susana Baca is ready to move into something quite different from music: Politics.
There are big news coming from Peru regarding the future of Susana Baca. Ollanta Humala, the newly elected Peruvian President, has just appointed the Latin Grammy winner as the new Minister of Culture in that country. This is a revolutionary designation for a country that in 200 years has not seen a black individual leading this kind of position.
Nevertheless, Susana Baca is not a newcomer in the field of culture. Back in 1987, she was named Cultural Ambassador of Goodwill for UNICEF Peru. She also been involved with different projects dealing with the promotion of Peruvian culture.
Susana Baca has made a significant contribution to traditional Latin music. Now, she has a golden opportunity to do even more for the culture of her country.
