Latin Music Artists Organize A Protest Against Grammy Awards

By February 7, 2012

Last year, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) announced a reduction of the categories included in the Grammy Awards. Since that moment, different Latin artists have rallied against that decision. Now that the Grammy Awards are almost here, a group of musicians have come together to organize a new protest that will take place on February 12, the same day the Grammy Awards are set for.

Some of the most prominent faces of this protest are Latin music artists. In particular, there are several Latin Jazz figures involved in the upcoming protest. Artists like Ray Carrion, Oscar Hernandez, John Santos and Bobby Rodriguez will join this rally to express their disapproval regarding the elimination of the Latin Jazz category from the Grammy Awards. They will also support other genres affected by NARAS's decision such as contemporary Blues and Native American music.

The protest has been organized by Grammy Watch and presente.org, an organization supporting Latino rights in the US. This event will take place outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM.
