Caetano Veloso, one of the greatest Brazilian artists of all time, will be honored next November 14 as the 2012 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. The announcement was made by Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, who referred to the iconic Latin music artist as "a man of limitless talent and commitment."
Caetano Veloso is the second Brazilian artist honored with this award after Gilberto Gil who received it back in 2003. Additional winners of this prestigious award include legendary artists such as Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernandez and Placido Domingo as well as contemporary stars like Ricky Martin and Shakira.
Hailed by the New York Times as one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century, Caetano Veloso has one of the most prolific careers in Latin music. Besides being one of the founders of the Tropicalia movement, he is also one of the top stars in the history of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). Throughout his career, he has produced over 40 albums and has recorded memorable works in different languages including English, Spanish and Italian.
Caetano Veloso will receive his award during a gala ceremony in Las Vegas just one day before the annual Latin Grammy Awards. The 13th edition of these prestigious trophies will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The Spanish-language network Univision will air this exciting show on Thursday, November 15 at 8:00 PM ET (7:00 PM CT).
