Latin music has lots to say about social and political systems. This is something quite evident in a movie like Hecho En Mexico (Made In Mexico), a capturing documentary where music becomes the ideal channel to understand Mexico's identity and innovative spirit. Produced by British director Duncan Bridgeman, this colorful audio visual experience features a rich cast made of popular stars and indigenous artists covering a broad spectrum of Mexican genres and styles that range from Rock and Urban music to Regional and Son Jarocho traditions.
The cast, which is behind the soundtrack responsible for providing this movie with its own soul, includes famous stars such as Carla Morrison, Julieta Venegas, Alejandro Fernandez, Cafe Tacvba's Ruben Albarran, Natalia Lafourcade, Lila Downs, La Original Banda El Limon, Los Tucanes de Tijuana and the legendary Ranchera singer Chavela Vargas, among many more.
Besides the music and vivid images you can see throughout the film, Hecho En Mexico offers a structure where different local and global issues are tackled in a very stimulating way by some of today's most respected Mexican intellectuals. From violence and immigration to spirituality and happiness, people such as writer Laura Esquivel, actor Diego Luna and journalist Juan Villoro invite you to revisit this labyrinth of solitude that defines modern 'Mexicanity.'
Hecho En Mexico is a song that is long, deep and intense. It is a really cool mix of sounds that will allow you to fully appreciate the unique essence of modern Mexico while giving you the opportunity to confront yourself through the values of The Other.
