
The year is coming to an end and I am about to choose the most influential Latin music artist of 2012. Several singers and bands had a wonderful 2012 and I know I am leaving big names out of this list including artists such as Daddy Yankee, Jesse & Roy, Jenni Rivera, Enrique Iglesias, Banda El Recodo and Wisin y Yandel. However, I will give you a couple of reasons to tell you why the following stars deserve to be here. Besides this, I would like to invite you to vote in the poll at the end of this post.
Juanes
- JUANES MTV Unplugged became one of the best albums of 2012 and received a Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
- Joined radio with SiriusXM hosting the program Yo Soy Juanes and launched the bilingual YouTube channel 123UnoDosTres.
Juan Luis Guerra
- Gathered most nominations for the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards.
- His album Coleccion Cristiana became one of the best Tropical albums of the year.
- Director and producer of the JUANES MTV Unplugged album.
Prince Royce
- His 2012 album Phase II was on top of the Latin music charts throughout the whole year.
- Top winner of the 2012 Billoard Latin Music Awards beating Romeo Santos in the Tropical field.
- Top winner of the 2012 Premio Lo Nuestro awards.
Carla Morrison
- This year, the Mexican singer consolidated her career with her album Dejenme Llorar.
- Dominated the Latin Alternative field at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards.
- Top artist of the soundtrack from the movie Hecho En Mexico
Ricky Martin
- Star of the acclaimed Broadway musical Evita.
- His Glee's "Sexy and I know It" performance became one of the most popular Latin TV acts of the year.
- Chosen by People magazine in Spanish as the best male singer of 2012.
Romeo Santos
- His 2011 album Formula Vol. 1 remained on top of the best-selling Latin music albums of 2012.
- Winner of Best Latino Artist trophy at this year's edition of the MTV Video Music Awards.
- Successful release of the DVD The King Stays King.
Mana
- The second leg of their US tour Drama Y Luz enjoyed tremendous success and the band broke the record for most sold-out shows at the Staples Center in LA.
- Honored with several trophies at the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
- The band was inducted to the Rock Walk of Fame in Hollywood.
Gerardo Ortiz
- Top winner at the 2012 Billboard Mexican Music Awards.
- His 2012 album El Primer Ministro enjoyed lots of success among Regional Mexican music fans.
- Became youngest artist to get a star on the famous Walk of Stars in Las Vegas.
Don Omar
- Top winner at the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
- Dominated Urban field at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards.
- His album MTO2 New Generation was one of the most popular works of 2012.
Pitbull
- In 2012, he consolidated his name as one of the most popular Latin music artists around the world.
- Honored with the BMI President's Award.
- Successful release of his 2012 album Global Warming.
