Every year, the Latin music market welcomes different compilation albums. 2012 was not an exception to that rule. In fact, some of this year's best albums were hit collections by artists like Juanes, Mana and Miguel Bose. Something we saw this year is that compilations are no longer mere playlists but rather works capable of re-introducing memorable tracks through unique audio (and sometimes visual) experiences.

That said, this year we saw compilations defined by outstanding duets, high-quality sound, unplugged projects, special arrangements and top live performances. While Miguel Bose's Papitwo and Tony Bennett's Viva Duets were enhanced by the duets they featured, Mana's Exiliados En la Bahia and Selena's posthumous work Enamorada De Ti took advantage of new technology to update the sound of the original hits.

Colombian superstar Juanes also delivered an amazing compilation with his MTV Unplugged album. Similarly, the Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela added a nice Tropical touch to Area 52 thanks to a recording that included the participation of the Afro-Cuban band C.U.B.A.

In terms of audio visual experiences, Carlos Santana's Live At Montreaux 2011 and Romeo Santos' The King Stays King: Sold Out at Madison Square Garden are definitely two of the most appealing compilations of this year. In spite of all these innovations, there were also 'classic' hit collections such as Prince Royce's Number 1s and Ricky Martin's Playlist: The Very Best of Ricky Martin. The following are the best Latin Music compilations of 2012:

  • Enamorada De Ti - Selena
  • Playlist: The Very Best of Ricky Martin - Ricky Martin
  • Viva Duets - Tony Bennett
  • Number 1s - Prince Royce
  • Papitwo - Miguel Bose
  • The King Stays King: Sold Out at Madison Square Garden - Romeo Santos
  • Exiliados En La Bahia: Lo Mejor De Mana - Mana
  • Live At Montreux 2011 - Carlos Santana
  • Area 52 - Rodrigo y Gabriela
  • JUANES MTV Unplugged - Juanes
