Latin music superstar Shakira and soccer player Gerard Pique have welcomed Milan, their first child born last night at Barcelona's Centro Medico Teknon. The famous Colombian artist shared the big news through her website. "We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique, born January 22 at 9:36 PM, in Barcelona, Spain," stated the first paragraph of a message written in English, Spanish and Catalan.

The announcement also included a brief explanation of the baby's name. According to it, "the name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification." In the closing sentence, the message "confirmed that the couple's first child weighed approximately 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health."

Yesterday, around 6:30 PM, the famous Latin music star was taken to the clinic for the cesarian section scheduled by her gynecologist Dr. Carlota García-Valdecasas. Although the couple was hoping to welcome Milan on February 2, the date where both Shakira and Gerard Pique celebrate their birthdays, the family's joy is immense. Congratulation to the Piques and best wishes to Milan who just like his father "became a member of FC Barcelona at birth." We will see if he turns out to be a great singer or a great soccer player.
