Guide Review - CD Review: Todos Tus Muertos - Greatest Hits
Todos Los Muertos (All Your Dead) was one of Argentina's - well, all of Latin America's - most influential punk rock bands of the '80s. Their music is a mixture of punk, reggae, rasta, ska and Latin rhythm fusion. Their lyrics are usually observations on the social conditions and despair felt in the wake of the country's stranglehold by a military junta.
The band broke-up a few years ago but really, their albums have not been readily available for the last 10 years, so it's a treat to revisit their early classic songs in this "greatst hits" compilation that reminds us what a great band this was and features the help of Manu Chao and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs on some of the tracks.
"Andate" starts the album with a frenzied verbal and instrumental duel; both chant-like and up-tempo rasta can be found in "Rasta Vive" and "Mandela". "No Te La Vas A Acabar" has a typical Latin guitar lead-in to a leisurely reggae tune. There's a lot of alternating moods like "Tu Alma Mia/Adelita" which starts with a slow cumbia and then moves to frantic metal thrash rifts.
For fans of Todos or of punk-rasta style music, this is an album well worth picking-up.
