Top Bachata Songs of 2012

By

Bachata continued to dominate the Tropical field this year. Although Urban Bachata and popular stars such as Prince Royce and Romeo Santos still represent the main force behind the current popularity of this Latin music genre, traditional works from artists such as Zacarias Ferreira and Hector 'El Torito' Acosta delivered some of this year's best Bachata songs. Let's take a look at the tracks that defined another glorious year for Bachata music.

The unique story featured in the video of this single provided a refreshing break in the world of traditional Bachata music videos.

For those who like to stick to the original sound of Bachata, Zacarias Ferreira's Quedate Conmigo is a must-have.

From the best-selling album Formula Vol. 1, "La Diabla" is one of the tracks that shaped Romeo Santos' enormous success this year. Unlike tracks like "Promise" and "You," "La Diabla" provides a nice sound that is closer to the traditional beats of Bachata music.

This year consolidated La Republika as one of the most influential names of the Urban Bachata movement. The group topped Tropical charts thanks to singles like "Perdoname" and the Bachata version of Jessey & Joy's hit track "Corre." This is a tough song dealing with forgiveness and cheating on someone.

If "Quedate Conmigo" dominated the first half of the year, "Me Sobran las palabras" has been one of the most popular Bachata songs of the second half of 2012. This hit produced by Zacarias Ferreira is by far one of the best Bachata tracks of 2012. I think I have heard that sweet intro from the guitar a thousand times this year. I love this song.

Just like Zacarias Ferreira, Prince Royce's 2012 was divided by two songs. While "Las Cosas Pequeñas" introduced Phase II to the Latin music market during the first half of this year, "Incondicional" became the track that consolidated that album as one of the mos popular works of 2012. The song offers a nice melody adorned with mariachi music.

Dominican singer Hector 'El Torito' Acosta came back this year with a solid album. A big chunk of the popularity that surrounded his 2012 work Con El Corazon Abierto relied on the hit track "Tu Veneno." In terms of plain good Bachata, this is one of my favorite tracks of 2012.
