380,000 wildly enthusiastic music fans turned out for Concierto Por Los Ninos, the Fundacion ALAS (Latin America in Solidarity Action) sponsored concert that was held simultaneously in both Buenos Aires and Mexico City. The concert was organized in order to raise awareness of the needs of the more than 32 million children in Latin America living in poverty without nourishment, health care or the hope of literacy and a brighter future.
The concerts - which were free to music fans - managed to garner $200 million as two huge donations were pledged from Howard Buffet, son of billionaire Warren Buffett, and Mexican magnate Carlos Slim.
The other big winners were music fans who were treated to an amazing line-up of Latin music stars in 8 hours of what has been called "Latin America's Live-Aid'.
