It was a slow January, but February definitely has a hot line-up of artists stepping onto the concert stage. The list is long, the artists great.
1. Concierto del Amor with Gilberto Santa Rosa, Don Omar, Frank Reyes
A few days before Valentine's Day, this is a 3-for-1 concert for a romantic evening out. It stars salsa's Gilberto Santa Rosa, reggaeton's Don Omar and bachata's Frank Reyes. A little something for every taste.
2. El Mundial De La Salsa 08
I can't seem to find a list of who's performing at this 'World Salsa' event, but it looks like a big show. If you know the lineup, come share with the readers.
3. Premio Lo Nuestro Awards
The Premio Lo Nuestro Music Award program is one of the most influential Latin music award events of the year. The event is a musical extravaganza, featuring most of the big-name Latin artist; the musical acts tend to be lavish and exciting. If you're in Miami, attending Premio Lo Nuestro is bound to be an experience.
4. Hector Acosta - "El Torito"
The Dominican Republic's Hector Acosta (aka El Torito) was the founder and lead singer of the fabulous Los Toros Band until his departure in 2006; he went on to form his own group, which included many of the original Los Toros band members. Acosta sings bachata and merengue, often picking the more romantic songs of the genrers and should be a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day.
5. Monchy & Alexandra
Monchy & Alexandra are one of the more popular bachata artists from the Dominican Republic; they don't tour that often, so this is a good opportunity to catch the duo live. Their new album, Angeles Desnudos was released in late 2007, but no longer seems to be available. Was it pulled? Will it be rereleased? Only time will tell.
6. RBD
Rebelde's superpop sextet is back on the road, with concerts scheduled through April. If you're one of the millions of RBD fans, February finds them in Texas, although they do move around the country for the next few months.7. Los Tigres del Norte
Probably the premier norteno band (at least here in the U.S.), Los Tigres del Norte is on the road for a couple of months, riding the tail of last year's Detailles y Emociones. They've announced that they've got a new album coming out soon, and that it will be something "special." Personally, I think almost all of their albums are special.8. Yuridia & Camila
The Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles just opened a few months ago and has booked some of the biggest Latin acts in the world on their first year rostrum. La Academia runner-up Yuridia and Mexican pop group Camila certainly fit that bill.
9. Molotov
Mexico's Molotov has been a rock institution for many years; the question is, will they remain together or go on to work solely on exclusively solo careers? No one knows for sure, but if you enjoy Moloto'v irreverent school of rock, this is a tour you won't want to miss.10. Gilberto Santa Rosa
Puerto Rico's "Salsa Gentleman" is always an experience when he performs live; if you're not in New York when he performs in the special Valentine's day concert (see above), you can still experience one of the great salsa stars in these additional cities.
