Top 10 Latin Music Concerts - April 2007

By

April is the month when spring really sets in and spring can really lift your spirits after the grey days of winter. So can a good Latin music concert. Here are my top picks for April concerts.

1. Ricky Martin

This is the month for Ricky Martin's Black & White Tour, promoting his Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged album. From the previews of the concert, this is bound to be the event of the month. There are quite a few concert dates in April, finishing up in May. You can see the concert schedule at:

2. Chayanne

Following last year's Cautivo, Chayanne's new release Mi Tiempo is coming out this month and, with it, a tour that starts the middle of the month. I know I wouldn't mind getting in to see an artist that just keeps getting better and better.

3. La 5a Estacion

Formerly from Madrid, currently from Mexico, La 5a Estacion got a great reception at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards earlier this year. From the reaction of the audience, this is a pop/rock band with lots of fans. Take the opportunity to hear them live, and you'll know why.

Apr. 12 - Austin, TX - Paradox
Apr. 13 - San Antonio, TX - Club Rio San Antonio
Apr. 21 - San Diego, CA - House of Blues

4. Sin Bandera

Leonel Garcia (Mexico) and Noel Schajris (Argentina) are Sin Bandera. Their name means 'without a flag', their music is great Latin pop and west coast fans will have a chance to hear them this month.

Apr. 19 - Las Vegas, NV - The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel
Apr. 21 - Hollywood, CA - Kodak Theater
Apr. 22 - San Diego, CA - 4th & B

5. Molotov

Mexico City's Molotov is a favorite of rock-en-espagnol fans; here's a chance to see them live. Three of the concerts also feature countrymen El Gran Silencio, along with Los Abandoned.

Apr. 4 - Sunnyvale, CA - Barcelona
Apr. 8 - San Diego, CA - House of Blues (with Cabula)

6. Julieta Venegas

Julieta Venegas has had quite a year with her award winning album Limon Y Sal. Most of her concerts have been on the west coast, so it's great to see she's giving other parts of the country a chance to enjoy her music.

Apr. 17 - Jacksonville, FL - Jack Rabbits
Apr. 18 - Orlando, FL - The Social

8. Los Tigres del Norte

Los Tigres have had quite a year. Their new album Detalles which is taking the Latin music airwaves by storms and they've just received the award as BMI Icons of the year. This concert is in their home town, so it should be well worth catching.

Apr. 7 - San Jose, CA - San Jose McEnery Convention Center

9. Ozomatli

Ozomatli new album Don't Mess With The Dragon comes out this month, and I think it's their best one yet. Here's a chance to see a group that always sounds like it's partying - and party with them. Next month they're performing with the Kumbia All Starz, so that should be a special treat.

Apr. 18 - Baltimore, MD - Sonar
Apr. 21 - Boston, MA - Paradise Rock Club

10. A Few Great Salsa Concerts

None of these concerts are at huge venues, but if you love salsa and you're in the neighborhood, they're not to be missed.

Tony Vega
