Mundial is an album heavily influenced by the different sounds Daddy Yankee gathered while touring around the world. Mundial is, in fact, an album that confirms the global appeal that surrounds Daddy Yankee. The album offers a combination of sounds that mix typical Reggaeton beat with lots of Electronic sounds, a little bit of Merengue and even some Batucada. Overall, a nice work without being the best from the Puerto Rican star.
Electronic Sounds
Right from the CD cover, you can tell the music on this album has something Electronic on it. Mundial is a very experimental work where Daddy brings lost of Electronic and Dance sounds to its melodies. Probably, the best song of this experiment is "Me Entere," a single featuring Tito El Bambino that keeps a very good balance between Latin and the Electronic vibes.
Best at Latin
Despite Daddy's experiment with new sounds, he is definitely more successful with songs that are shaped by a strong Latin beat. For instance, "Descontrol" keeps Daddy Yankee as the Reggaeton star we have always known. In the same Latin wave, "La Despedida" offers a very catchy Merengue beat defined through a modern Dance style that brings to mind some of the stuff produced by groups like Proyecto Uno and Ilegales in the past.
“Grito Mundial”
"Grito Mundial" is one of the best songs of Mundial. With this track, Daddy Yankee probably captures the essence of the whole album. This single offers an energetic Dance beat that is perfectly synchronized with Daddy's flow and the Batucada rhythm that is incorporated into the melody. "Grito Mundial" is a song that encompasses in a clever way the energy that surrounds the World Cup competition.
‘Mundial’ – Bottom Line
Mundial is not the best work from Daddy Yankee. However, this album offers a couple of songs that are worth the whole album. With Mundial, Daddy Yankee is able to present himself as an artist in constant evolution willing to try different sounds. Mundial is an album that reinforces the brand Daddy Yankee has created around himself as one of today's most influential Latin music artists.
