Calle 13 took home five big awards, turning all of their nominations to gold. Upon accepting the award for 'Best Alternative Song.' Calle 13's Residente (Rene Perez) said "To all the people who make music in this moment of independent music, to hell with record labels!" This is a pretty tame quote after some of the comments he made as he hosted this year's Premios MTV awards.
The 3+ hour long show offered non-stop performances and a blockbuster set by the 2009 Person of the Year, Juan Gabriel.
