Latin Music New Releases for March 3, 2009

By Tijana Ilich, About.com

Here are this week's notable new releases.

1. 'The Birth of Bossa Nova'

Here's a collection of seminal Bossa Nova tracks from Joao Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Luiz Bonfa, Os Cariocas, Laurindo Almeida and more. These are classics, some scarce and out-of-print; an excellent album to add to your collection.

2. Lorenzo Antonio - 'Amores'

There was no way that Albuquerque's Lorenzo Antonio wasn't going to be a musician since everyone in his family has been a performer. Notably, his four sisters sing as the girl-group Sparx and Antonio has joined them on several albums. The music is a mix of ranchera, Latin pop and ballads.

3. Ana Isabelle - 'Por El Amor'

Puerto Rican singer/actress Ana Isabelle originally released this album in 2007. The rerelease of Por El Amor may be timed to coincide with her new gig: a starring role in the stage version of High School Musical in Puerto Rico.

4. Miguel Enriquez - 'Nariz Inquieta'

Cuban salsero Miguel Enriquez isn't that well known outside his adopted country of Italy but if this >a href="/od/genres/p/PRO09BASIC.htm">salsa /timba album takes off, that could change.

5. N'Taya - 'Y Ya Llego'

With Cuban releases hard to come by in the U.S., Miami is the new Havana when it comes to timba. Miami's N'Taya is headed by vocalist Nick Martinez and keyboardist Pepe Montes and their sound is a timba straight from the streets.

6. Aymee - 'Corazon Sonero'

Cuban-born Aymee Nuviola now lives in Miami where she's gathered quite a following for her own brand of salsa. She's got one of those deep, strong voices that reminds you of La India and the style to match the voice.
