Here are this week's notable new releases.
Tony Dize got his start in
reggaeton under the auspices of Wisin y Yandel. This is his first solo album and, listening to the previews, is sounds like a winner.
La Melodia De La Calle features Wisin y Yandel, Jayco, Gadiel and Franco El Gorila.
Of all the young Puerto Rican
salsa groups (not that there are that many), NG2 is my favorite. Their apprenticeship was with
El Gran Combo but they've updated their salsa to make it fresh and contemporary.
Mexican Pedro Fernandez is sometimes better known for acting than music, although he got his start as a protege of
Vicente Fernandez. He won the 2001
Latin Grammy for "Best Ranchera Album", so don't let the acting dissuade you from his music.
Milton Nascimento is one of the icons of
Brazilian samba while Daniel and Paolo Jobim are the guitarists in the jazzy bossa combo that should be an interesting back-drop for Nascimento's vocals in this new
bossa nova album.
Malena is a group of musicians headed-up by Susan Montero. The group combines instrumental jams with electronica and sounds good-to-go for the dance floor.
Norteno-style music from this group from Compton, CA.
Mother's day is around the corner and you might be looking for music to make her day special. This album is a re-release but it has some good numbers from Los Alegres de Teran, Carlos y Jose, Los Tucanes de Tijuana and more.
