Here are this week's notable new releases.
Italy's pop diva Laura Pausini sings in a lot of languages but her Spanish-language albums may be more popular than the ones she performs in Italian. In fact,
Primavera Anticipada, with its 14 new tracks, is being released in Spanish before the Italian version.
'La Mente Maestra' is DJ Nesty, who produced most of the songs on this album. The third compilation album by
reggaeton /hip hop artists
Wisin y Yandel, they're joined on the album by other artists including Gadiel, Nesty and Victor & Marioso.
This seems to be the 'year of the compilation' and Enrique Iglesias jumps on the bandwagon with a 'Greatest Hits' album. You'll notice the title is not 'Exitos' which tells you that the 17 tracks on the album are his crossover hits in English.
There are 2 new tracks included: "Away" feat. Sean Garrett and "Takin Back My Love" with Ciara.
Bebo Valdes is one of the great Cuban jazz pianists and was director of Havana's Tropicana in pre-Castro days. Chucho Valdes is his son, another great jazz pianist and one of the founders of Irakere, one of the most famous Cuban jazz bands ever.
Bebo left Cuba after the revolution, Chucho stayed behind and they didn't see each other for 18 years. Here they are, together at last, in what promises to be a really special album.
Puerto Rican keyboardist/composer/arranger Jose Lugo has put together an orchestra that takes us back to the large Latin band swing sound of early
salsa. He's even gotten the participation of some great soneros including
Gilberto Santa Rosa and
Victor Manuelle and wrapped it up in a 2-disc set that includes a DVD featuring the making of the album.
