Here are this week's notable new releases.
Puerto Rican N'Klabe has been called the "future of salsa" by
salsa great Cheo Feliciano and the title of the quartet's new album seems to reflect their own thinking on the matter. The CD contains the hit single "Si Yo No Estas" with
reggaeton's RKM & Ken-Y.
Puerto Rican Power is a large band that's been devoted to salsa since the 1970s, playing with some of the early, great salsa pioneers.
Nejo y Dalmata are another of the great rapper duos coming out of Puerto Rico. Their music is a little different, blending hip hop, reggaeton and
merengue into original works worth listening to.
Here's another artist that blends hip hop, reggaeton and merengue, but it doesn't sound like Nejo y Dalmata. That's one of the great things about musical fusion, you can blend a few things together, but the result is often unique, as is the sound of Papi Sanchez from Miami.
Now here's a CD I'm looking forward to hearing. With the large Cuban population in Miami, we get a lot of great pop and salsa, but not much
Cuban son. That's the specialty of Conjunto Progreso and their interpretation of the music is definitely worth a listen.
Fruko y Sus Tesos is one of the classic Colombian salsa bands so if you love
salsa dura, this might be an album to give as a gift to yourself.
Puerto Rican diva Ednita Nazario has a huge fan base - both at home and abroad- that will doubtless be cheering a new album by the pop singer.
