Despite his short musical career, Bachata singer Prince Royce is already one of the most popular Latin music artists around the world. The following bio provides information about his early years growing up in New York City, his musical influences, the reasons behind the enormous success he enjoys today, and a selection of some of his best songs.

A Kid from The Bronx

Geoffrey Royce Rojas was born on May 11, 1998, in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City. His parents were both from the Dominican Republic, which explains to a large extent the affinity Prince Royce developed towards Bachata music from a very early age. While his father used to work as a taxi driver in the Big Apple, his mother was working at a beauty salon.

As any kid from the Bronx, Prince Royce grew up listening to Hip-Hop, Pop and R&B. However, he was also exposed to lots of Bachata. When he was only 13 years old, he decided to pursue his own musical dream so he started to write poems and songs. His initial interest was directed towards Hip-Hop and R&B. However, when he was asked to sing Bachata, he realized that genre offered the perfect path to accomplish his musical aspirations.

'Prince Royce' Becomes A Hit Album

With a clear idea about writing and singing Bachata music, Prince Royce was ready to deliver his first production. His debut album, Prince Royce transformed this young and emerging artist from the Bronx into one of today's biggest Latin music stars.

The album Prince Royce, which was released on March 2010, became one of the most popular albums of 2010 and 2011. This success was the result of the refreshing sound that Prince Royce incorporated into songs like "Stand By Me," "Corazon Sin Cara" and "El Amor Que Perdimos". However, the sound was not the only thing refreshing about the album. Prince Royce also brought with him a fresh look that helped him to gather fans all over the world.

From this album, the single "Stand By Me," a bilingual Bachata version of the legendary song by Ben E. King, became a worldwide hit that took the whole album to the top of Latin music charts all over the place. "Stand By Me" was, in fact, the first Bachata song that made it to Pop and R&B radio stations in the US. Along those lines, the single "Corazon Sin Cara" was also one of the most popular songs of 2011.

Thanks to this huge success, Prince Royce was also able to gather and take home several music awards including the Tropical Album of the Year Award at the 2011 Billboard Latin Music Awards and the Tropical Artist of the Year Award at the 2011 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards.
